October 16, Day 11, Acceptance
But, in AA, there are many good sayings:
Let go and let God, KISS, keep it simple stupid! And of course my favorite, the Serenity Prayer:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change!. Courage to change the things I can! And the WISDOM to know the difference. Reinhold Niebuhr.
Many don’t know the rest of the prayer by this 20th century theologian:
God grant me the serenity To accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; And wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world As it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right If I surrender to His Will. So that I may be reasonably happy in this life And supremely happy with Him Forever and ever in the next. Amen.
prayer attributed to Reinhold Neibuhr, 1892-1971)
Acceptance! Eileen and I sharing a beer after my 10k walk.
I continue to believe in a laughing God, just like I believe in a laughing Buddha! So today, I was feeling well enough for a walk. 4.4 km to a church with Mass in English. I knew I’d be late, it the “rule” was if u get there by the gospel, it’s all good. So funny, I got to the church, not realizing it was across the street from the gas station where I asked directions! And they didn’t know it and sent me the wrong way. So much for folks knowing anything about church! Google maps work great. But sometimes those round abouts t got me going in the wrong direction!
Here is the church, but gates were locked! Said my own prayers. I saw some folks inside the gate?
Happy Sunday! So glad you are feeling better. Enjoy your time with Eileen. Love, Susan.
