October 23, Day 18 justice

           The pilgrims at a break on our 24 km hike!

Word for the day: JUSTICE!   God hears the cries of the poor, blessed are the poor!   The rest of today’s readings are also powerful and speak to justice and serving the poor and oppressed.

“Reading 1

The LORD is a God of justice,
 who knows no favorites.
 Though not unduly partial toward the weak,
 yet he hears the cry of the oppressed.
 The Lord is not deaf to the wail of the orphan,
 nor to the widow when she pours out her complaint.
 The one who serves God willingly is heard;
 his petition reaches the heavens.
 The prayer of the lowly pierces the clouds;
 it does not rest till it reaches its goal,
 nor will it withdraw till the Most High responds,
 judges justly and affirms the right,
 and the Lord will not delay.

Responsorial Psalm

R. (7a)  The Lord hears the cry of the poor.
I will bless the LORD at all times;
his praise shall be ever in my mouth.
Let my soul glory in the LORD;
the lowly will hear me and be glad.
R. The Lord hears the cry of the poor.
The LORD confronts the evildoers,
to destroy remembrance of them from the earth.
When the just cry out, the LORD hears them,
and from all their distress he rescues them.
R. The Lord hears the cry of the poor.
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted;
and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.
The LORD redeems the lives of his servants;
no one incurs guilt who takes refuge in him.
R. The Lord hears the cry of the poor.

Beloved:
I am already being poured out like a libation,
and the time of my departure is at hand.
I have competed well; I have finished the race;
I have kept the faith.”

Sometimes it’s hard to know which           way to go!
I have yet to finish the race.  Initially, I told myself, slow your pace, this is not a race.  Then it changed to keep your pace, this is not a race.  And now it’s become, this seems to be a race, so pick up your pace! The meditation is to be gained in the fast walking, not slowing down to observe nature.  So, once again, a different experience than expected!  So may God bless the pilgrims as we completed our 24km trek!

We had many Angels along the way today, and throughout the pilgrimage!  So here’s to the angels who helped lighten the load

Angel from Montgomery is another one of my favorite songs by John Prine. This rendition with Bonnie Raitt is the best!  The words are so poignant!  “ There's flies in the kitchen
I can hear 'em there buzzin'And I ain't done nothingSince I woke up today
How the hell can a personGo to work in the morningThen come home in the eveningAnd have nothing to say?”
Have you ever had days like that?  When you come home and have absolutely nothing  to say?
Days of being so spent, so alone, that you forget about the angels in our lives?

    Not bad at the end of the day!🍷
                 Jeez Louise!

  1. Hi Louise, it sounds like your mantra changed through the course of the day, but I’m sure you kept thinking let go let God! And you did it so that’s great. I hope you get a well-deserved good nights sleep. You looked great at the end of the day. Sending you lots of hugs, Susan
