October 4. Exploring Barcelona, getting ready for Camino

Hola! Life is good!!  La vida buena!
Here I am on the Mediterranean Sea, I put my feet in the water and walked on the sand.

A wonderful day before our departure to Loyola in the Basque Country.  Just a note.  All responses reply anonymous, so if you want me to know who you are, please add your name!  If you wish to remain anonymous, I get it. You can say whatever u want with no repercussions!

So, my dear friends, Dave and Karen Hinchen and I met to explore the city together.  We went to Montjuic and saw the castle at the top of the city.  We had a great view of the Mediterranean.  Lovely flowers on our walk down the “mountain.”

Then went to Eileen’s game!  She plays with some awesome women. She plays with some teammates since 2006!  How great is that?  They won their first game, 58-34.  Not to brag, but Eileen made 12 Points, and played awesome defense.  But the game could not be complete without those awesome fans in the background.  I am sure the tres amigos in the stands contributed to the win!!!!!  We took the bus home, rather than those pesky electric bikes!

Eileen negotiated a great private bike tour for Dave, Karen, and me!  A great shot of Dave and Karen.

Dave was the director of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, East. The program started in 1975, and I am honored to be a member of the first volunteers on the East Coast! This experience “ruined me for life.”  It provided me with the opportunity to focus on community, simple lifestyle, spirituality, and social justice!

Only fitting that the first shot is of Dave and Karen in front of the first hospital in Barcelona. Our guide told us that Gaudi, the fabulous architect, died in this hospital.  He had grown a long beard, and was hit by a street car.  Due to his appearance, those who responded, thought he was a street person, so he was sent to this public hospital.  When they realized his stature, he was offered the option of transfer to a private hospital.  He refused,  stating that he was born poor, and would die poor!  I plan to learn more about this amazing man.  He has so influenced the culture of Barcelona. He began work on Sagrada Familia and the hope is to have it complete by 2026; the 100th anniversary of his passing.

Our night ended with meeting with my fellow pilgrims of the Camino for a great dinner!

Eileen and I had a nightcap overlooking the Font Magica near her home!  We got free drinks after our waiter spilled wine 🍷 on my jacket which I plan to take on the Camino!  Hope it’s worth it for a wet jacket on my 7 hr train ride to Loyola!  Jeez Louise!
