November 6, Part II, Morocco

 Word of the day:  Morocco

The word Morocco is derived from the name of the city of Marrakesh, which was its capital under the Almoravid dynasty and the Almohad Caliphate. The origin of the name Marrakesh is disputed, but it most likely comes from the Berber words amur (n) w'akush (ⴰⵎⵓⵔ ⵏ ⵡⴰⴽⵓⵛ), meaning 'Land of God'.

Today, we will go to Rabat, the current capital.  Later in the week, we will head to Marrakech.  We are staying with Mohammed, a friend I made when he traveled to Spokane for a teaching sabbatical on a Fulbright scholarship.  He is retired now, but taught Sociology at University in Rabat!
