December 4, Divine

2nd Sunday of advent already!  Word for the day: Divine, God  like!  “We pray for the grace to see ourselves as loved by God; finding the Divine in all”.
My word on October 7, Perseverance.

My original post on October 8 included many pictures of the animals.  We left Legazpi in the darkness of the morning.  Our breakfast consisted of bread and coffee. And our destination was Arantzazu.

There was beautiful tile work throughout the city!

Don’t remember the specifics of this pilgrim!  But he is holding a Shepard’s staff!

Gardens along the way, small Basque farms!
Ducks, quack quack,  duck, duck, goose
It got misty, so we put on our ponchos, but never rained Dave (my JVC director in’75). We were generally last, as Fr Josep said, “paddylast” due to pic taking!

Lots of veggies 🥗 in the gardens
Beans, lettuce and a bridge to somewhere!

Little huts along the way.  Horses as fall showed itself

Lots of twists and turns, Lord guide me that I take the right path.  It was a long and grueling walk this day!  It in the midst of the mist, I looked for the divine in nature and in my heart.  And I prayed to finish the hike!

Such quietness in the forest, such little time for meditation.  I would have enjoyed standing here for a long period of time, to listen to Gods voice.  But I have the memory of the stillness, the smell of the pines and recent rainfall.

But, the trail beckoned us to hurry along!  And then,
Almost there after a long walk! It was an exhausting day, as I recall. The weather was threatening, so we did not stop for a lunch break.  This may have been the beginning of my demise!
Finally, the village of Arantzazu and church in sight!!!
And a dog to greet us at Goiko Venta!
St Ignatius stayed here as well, 500 years ago.
We visited the church and had mMass in the small chapel.  Documented on October 8.  Arantzazu!

A meal shared with Karen and Dave, Boston pals!

Confession Anyone?   Not the dark rooms of  youth, but rather a guardian angel watching over?

Rather than the crucifixion of Christ being the focus, the churches in Spain had the blessed Virgin at the center of the altar, and a crucified Christ to the side.  I was in awe of the devotion to Mary exhibited in the churches.  It is a tribute to the understanding of how important motherhood is, even and especially with the Christ child.

This photo does not do justice to the beauty of this Madonna.  The bell represents the shepherds and the tree root, life!

The divine was ever present 🎁.  And we ended the evening with a fabulous 3 course dinner.  Jeez Louise!
