December 8, birth….day

Word of the day:  Miracle!  A surprising and welcoming event that is considered to be the work            of the divine. So, the miracle of today?  In reviewing my walk, day by day…

This day is reviewing the 12th of October, my birthday. So, today, we went to my sister Trish house.  And in her  window is a butterfly!

I am not sure how a butterfly got into her house, let alone has survived freezing weather for several days!  But a small miracle nonetheless!  And Mom, reminds us that she is with us this Christmas and Advent season. This is a comma butterfly.  Also fitting, as my mom was a stickler for correct grammar and punctuation!!’

So, we stayed in LaGuardia, a mediaeval enclosed city

                 The outside fortress of LaGuardia

I awakened on the 12th, my 68th birthday, to a beautiful sunrise overlooking the Roja wine 🍷 country. As my cough was not abating, my dear daughter borrowed a car and drove 5 hours to pick me up.  We then drove 5 hrs back to Barcelona.  And we spent 5 hrs in the emergency room!  Not exactly how I had anticipated celebrating my birthday.  But then again, the entire Camino was not what I had anticipated.
Another beautiful view of the wine country.
Our fearless guide, Fr Josep with Fr Nielsen.  Nielsen had walked the Camino with us, but left us this day for his personal walk alone.
Christine (our great organizer of the Camino & Porter
Aussie Jane and I share the same birthday 🎉
A lovely cobblestone street, intricate design.              A sunflower 🌻?  The flower of St Ignatius
Canada  Jane and Beth Ann packing up for another day!     Heavier suitcases & stairs could be challenging!

A fruit market in LaGuardia.  Sooo inexpensive compared to the USA.  A definite sticker     shock upon my return!
There were these shoes depicting travelers! They reminded me of a less happy display of shoes at thecHolo Australian Museum in Washington DC.
Bags that we carry are not always baggage’
Nielsen, our Jesuit friend left the group this day, same as me!   He, to walk the remainder of the Camino alone.  Me, to head to  Barcelona to heal.  So, I said goodbye to my Camino friends, knowing I would rejoin soon!

Our wonderful supper on the 11th, with great wine! But even better company!
The pilgrims left at noon this day for Funmayor.
                         Jeez Louise!
