January7, 23 Nativity

Yesterday was the feast of the nativity.  My grandchildren came over to place the kings around the baby Jesus, so they could complete their journey.  We called their aunt Tia Leenie (Eileen) where she was celebrating King’s Day!  In Spain and other Latin countries, this is the day of gift giving.
Feliz Dia de Reyes!

 Word of the day:  fishermen.   Fisher of men and women.  The readings on this 17th day of our journey included the story of John and James who left their profession to become fishers of people. We are challenged to become contemplative in action! 


Always following the River.  The Segre River is a tributary of the Eros, the river we had followed in the Basque Country, beginning in Loyola.

         It was great to reconnect and meet new pilgrims! And of course, the journey continued!

Vermouth in Barcelona

Hola from Barcelona!  I arrived on Wednesday, September 28 with my daughter Eileen. I have been slowly adjusting to the big city. Walking, exploring Museu Nacional  D’Art de Catalunya, Barcelona. Like Don Quixote, (Ismael Smith, circa 1927), I will be tilting at windmills on this awesome journey.  Eileen and I joined some of her friends for a vermouth festival along the Mediterranean Shores.  It was complete with music, great vermouth, and quite the lightning show. I don’t think that’s a halo over my head!  But maybe at The end of my 30 day pilgrimage, it might be. So I was the only won who won a t-shirt by completing the Olympic bottle toss by lassoing 3 Bottles!   The night ended with my first  ride on an electric bike, and I didn’t crash.   Speaking of crashing; it’s 12:30 am,  Beyond time of my turning into a pumpkin. So I’m going to crash. Jeez Louise!

January 22, Lunar new year

 Word for the day: Luminous: bright, brilliant, radiant, glowing with light!              Full moon in Morocco 🇲🇦 November 2022      The moon shining brightly overlooking Barcelona.   Fuente Mágica de Montjuic Eileen and I celebrating our last night before the Camino.  The server spilled wine on my jacket and dress. Perhaps an omen of the difficulties to come.   The group at our dinner, meeting most of my fellow pilgrims for the first time.  A month of comradery!   Chinese New year, Lunar New Year 🧧 began again with a mass shooting outside of LA.  I really don’t know how much carnage we will continue to endure as innocents die at the hands of assault weapons.   I attended a legislative conference yesterday.
