November 20, Thanksgiving

Image
Word for the day:  Thanksgiving I thank my creator for giving me my family, my life full of love πŸ’• and hope and health.  I thank God for the good people who have crossed my path and whom I am honored to call friends.   New friends in Barcelona.  Eileen is blessed with many good friends and every year she hosts a Thanksgiving feast for her dear friends! This was her first one post covid, so it was a special celebration of reuniting after lockdown and so much loss.  Spain was on lockdown for nearly 6 months! Oh, what a feast it was yesterday.  Turkey, broccoli and cauliflower in Bechamel Sauce, fresh green beans with bacon, mashed potatoes & gravy And don’t forget the stuffing, Eileen’s friends’ favorite.                  Preparations for the stuffing                   Cutting the turkey The turkey just barely fit in her oven, the whole space   The first time Eileen has had family with her in Spain to celebrate  Thanks πŸ™ giving. At dinner, we each spent a moment sharing what we ar

Word of the day:  wave:  propagation of disturbances from place to place in a regular and organized way.  Wave: move freely and gently back and forth. Wave: to motion with hands a signal.   I needed the calm of the water upon my return to  Barcelona.  So, I’ve spent the last 2 days, walking along the Mediterranean.  Dipping my feet I the water, and enjoying the waves. I have enjoyed moving freely and gently since return to the city.                          Footprints πŸ‘£ in the sand               Sailing looks like great fun! https://youtu.be/jIkqtGr_fNI                     The boardwalk, today I biked it! https://youtu.be/SHtUxS1K7Xs            A cortado and lemon mousse on the beach!                              Gorgeous skies!          Eileen on electric bike, I took a standard one. These bikes are for residents only as alternate transportation.  You pay more if your ride is longer than 30 minutes, as they are designed for commuting. I also was able to attend Eileen’s basketball πŸ€

November 11, Riad

Image
Word of the day: Riad: house, home, with interior garden.  Home: the place we live.  Garden: cultivated grounds.    Home is where the heart is.  It is not just the physical space in which we reside; but also the spiritual place that gives us a sense of purpose and love. We are staying at Light of the Sun Riad.   Inside garden  Birds sometimes come and serenade, the stairs go upstairs to an outside deck overlooking the city. This is where I participated in morning and evening prayer. The stairs outside our room leading to terrace. We left early and went to “the Secret Garden” in Marrakech.  It had been built around 400 years ago, but owes its irrigation to a system dating back nearly a thousand years of underground channels gravity fed from the Atlas Mountains.   Intricate mosaic design on ceiling of gazebo  The gazebo with trees all around it! Eileen sitting near one of many fountains in garden. Eileen and I have been having a wonderful time. We go  for quiet walks in the mornings, and

November 10, prayer πŸ™

Word of the day:  prayer:    solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God or another deity. So, in Islamic countries, they pray 5 times a day.          Prayer times list for today in Marrakech:  06:14 (Imsak), 06:24 (Fajr), 07:50 (Sunrise), 13:16 (Dhuhr), 16:16 (Asr), 18:41 (Sunset), 18:41 (Maghrib), 19:58 (Isha). (No Salah at sunrise). The five daily prayers are obligatory (fard) and they are performed at times determined essentially by the position of the Sun in the sky. Hence, salah or prayer times vary at different locations on the Earth. Fajr (dawn) Fajr begins at  subh saadiq  -- true dawn or the beginning of twilight, when the morning light appears across the full width of the sky -- and ends at sunrise. Zuhr (midday) The time interval for offering the Zuhr or Dhuhr prayer starts after the sun passes its zenith and lasts until 20 min (approx) before the call for the Asr prayer is to be given. There is thus a long period of time within which this prayer can b
