February 18, Negligence

Words for the day:  How did time get away? The State of the Union Address, 🌎 Super Bowl Sunday,  🏈Valentine’s Day 💜 and now almost President’s Day, 🇺🇸, Mardi Gras 🎭, and Ash Wednesday 🌋.  Perhaps it has been negligence on my part.  Negligence:

A failure to behave with the level of care that someone of ordinary prudence would have exercised under the same circumstances!

So has my lack of meditation 🧘‍♀️ been a lack of discipline that others may have exercised.  But it seems to a bit of a blaming connotation!  I’d like to think that life got in the way!    And I hope to return to near daily musings during Lent!  And perhaps share and review the 2nd half of my Camino.

So, I attended the latest exhibit at the Museum of Art and Culture (MAC) on the 11th of February with my church.  There were 2 profound exhibits. One on Native American culture & stereotypes titled: “Savages and Princesses”.

The other was a beaded glass exhibit produced by the Ubuhle Project, a group of women in South Africa, seeking independence through their art.  Here are some samplings:

One woman has white clinic in each work

Bulls are an important part of South African culture
The Seahawk colors a day before Super Bowl
Notice the white clinic in upper right of her garden

And a brilliant tree of life!
But, perhaps the most astounding was the room size crucifixion rendition made for a church in South Africa.

                  A             crucified Jesus!
                   Tree of destruction/sacrifice

          Tree of life and resurrection

This artwork reminded me of the work at the church at Manresa, where St Ignatius stayed for a year and developed his Spiritual exercises and the ideation in formation of the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits.

Jesus and Ignatius, walking the crucifixion path as one
Together, they share a third eye.  A reminder that to walk with Jesus is to join with Jesus!
The hard and stony walk in solidarity

                     Jesus with the weeping women
bright orange sun was a constant in the murals

And so art can convey the suffering of our lord in a way that words cannot.  But it’s important to always have the resurrection as the final goal, JOY and HOPE!
